Cutting Mahogany ply

Post by jpkerr »

Hi.
I have a LS 3020 and I am trying to cut 5 mm Mahogany ply with it but the surface of the ply keeps burning.
Dose anyone else use this type of ply ? if so what settings are you using. ie AMPS ,SPEED, POWER.
Maybe I am asking to much from this machine to cut this.

5mm is just at the edge for ply and the 3020. Mahogany may just push it over - up the air assist and keep the water cool (13ish) and you may be ok. Check everything else is tip top as well - focus, clean lenses / mirrors and alignment.

It sounds daft but in some cases less power helps as well. I also find de-focussing can help (turning the lens upside down can be enough).

Best

Hi Dave
Thanks for the quick reply.
I will try the things that you have suggested and see how it goes. This is a one off project for a friend don't think I will be doing many more of them LOL.

Cheers Jim
