Cutting Vinyl Records
Cutting Vinyl Records
As a teacher i'm always on the look out for new projects and the other day I was in a shop where they were selling 80's vinyl records that had been laser cut and had a clock mechamism through the centre. They looked great and were selling for about £30 (shocking price) - so, i'd always heard that cutting vinyl was a very bad thing to do , any one out there any thoughts for safety, problems , settings etc. Thanks for any info, cheers, Tone.
Re: Cutting Vinyl Records
Don't go there - it's not worth it in your position unless you can guaranty ALL fumes are extracted and filtered to comply with various regs.
Vinyl used to make records vary in quality as well so one record may have different qualities to the next. There may also be a risk of toxic residue dust left in the machine.
In my opinion anyway

Re: Cutting Vinyl Records
I's go even further than Dave...
DON'T do it...
the fumes are unknown and can contain various toxic materials up to and including cyanide...not only will the fumes corrode your machine they will do the same to your lungs unless you have industrial grade extraction (as in the top line pro stuff)
best wishes
