Cutting tiny objects

Post by bobg »

Hi when cutting tiny objects in thin materials (I'm using Mylar sheets which are .25 to .5mm thick) it's easy for the small parts to fall into the honeycombe bed and be awkward to retrieve. If you place a piece of cardboard under the sheet to be cut the laser melts the edges slightly as it cuts and welds them to the cardboard quite nicely. It also keeps the material you are cutting flatter. They can then be picked off as required with a sharp knife.

I use mounting card offcuts underneath but you could save your cornflake packets and use those instead for nothing!

Cheers

We use mount adhesive on clear perspex at low power so the air assist doesnt blow the bits away.
cut order is king so using the layers and cutting out the inners first helps.. ;)

Unless you have newly draw like Bob that doesn't have the option of layer control :)

best wishes

Hi Just to help, a friend of mine has a 3020 and he can change the cut order in Newlydraw,
The way to do it is:
Select the object.
go to object tool bar.
select down or up one layer.
Then to check use the 123 tool icon which shows the layers you will find it has changed !!
Im playing with Newlydraw so will start a topic if any one is interested. ;)

You can but as far as I know there is no way to assign a pause between layers so you can change the power settings - the cut order works fine!
