Hi
We have been playing with the LS3020 and have gotten some good results. We do have a problem which i am hoping someone will have the answer.
When we engrave from a jpg or any other image file the lines of the letters are really thin, is there any way we can specify the minimum width within newly draw? All the x and y sizes are correct it is just the thickness of the letters that we are having problems with, we have bolded the letters before exporting the but it seems to make no differance. If we engrave a 1pt line it comes out mor like a .5pt line.
Any help would be greatfully received.

Hiya Col,
Are you engraving raster images or vectors?
best wishes

Re: LS3020 & Newly Draw
Ok erm did i mention i am new at this!
I think raster....
I design the image in PagePlus X4 and save it as a jpg then import it into newly draw. I dont select anything else I just ask it to engrave.
I have also been looking at the settings BOLD H and BOLD V these allow you to set 0 - 9 I have put 4 lines at 1pt, 1.5pt, 2pt and 2.5pt at setting 9 the 1pt dose not come out.....

Re: LS3020 & Newly Draw
Hi Col,
I have a 3020 and NewlyDraw - only a couple of weeks so getting used to it myself!
Can you post a sample of the image you are trying to engrave? As far as I know a jpg will only engrave in ND rather than cut - ie the head scans back and forth like a printer rather than following a path of the image (sorry if I am teaching grandma to suck eggs, but I knew very little about raster and vector a few weeks back). Thanks to Dave (Spooky) I am gradually getting there, but still a long way to go
I think (and that is a big think) that the problem is in the jpg. Are you engraving it size for size? If the imported image is re-sized smaller in ND then the lines would be smaller too. ND would not recognise text from picture as so would engrave at the same dpi.
It appears that a few of the options in ND do not have an affect on the 3020 - the power for instance and it's taking me quite a while to find out what is useful and what isn't!

Re: LS3020 & Newly Draw
Hi
I have attached a sample. It measures 10 x 27mm at 1000dpi. It is engraved only. The problem I have is the letters com out so thin. Is there a better way of setting up the artwork? There is functions to produce slopes in ND they are not grayed out on the 3020 but don’t seem to do anything when enabled and also the bold h / v seem to make the lines thinner. The second sample is lines set at 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3pt when bold h/v is set to 9 the 1pt line does not come out. I have had a good look around the web but these setting don’t seem to have any documentation on how to use them.

Re: LS3020 & Newly Draw
Hi Col,
Try creating the picture as black and white - if you zoom in on the picture in newleydraw you will see some noise. Have attached a sample from my ND - the Colin on the right is B&W, the one on the left is the one saved from here.
I have not tried it on the laser yet but suspect it would help to start with!
