Is it possible to trace a scanned image in Autocad? I can do it in illustrator but I'm desperately learning how to do things in AutoCAD, some of the things it does are, well, awesome
Say I wanted to draw in some Speedo Clock Fascia's off a car, is there a way without trial and error and working out how big circles are etc to do it in AutoCAD from a scan?
You can do 'insert', 'raster image reference' and then draw over the top - not sure if there is an automatic way - Spooky is the guru on AutoCad.
I use R2V - have a look at the attached as an example that took 2 minutes - spend a bit longer and the result can be improved
Cheers

No can do, you would need to use AutoDesk Raster Design
Be aware though for facsias scanning a raster will be nowhere near accurate enough. You would need to edit the image and output quite a lot.
best wishes

I have a copy of all the AutoCAD 2012 software on a three year licence The joys of long distance learning for the job and being able to obtain an NUS card
I don't mind a lot of editing and output. I do it a lot on Illustrator. I'm hoping that the fascia is pretty symmetical which will greatly assist.
Trying to build up my AutoCAD skills, perhaps not the easiest start but in for a penny as they say
Ive done this for Opel Calibra , i gave up scanning and just measured it to draw it up , the scanning just complicated matters as i needed to draw over it anyway, a ruler was quicker

If the bit comes off its easy, stick it on graph paper and draw round it to get coordinates for the curves , i bought old dash parts and smashed them up , i have also used a rediculous method of paper over the part held tight and rubbing a wax crayon `brass rubbing` style , then transfer that to graph paper using a pin through the paper to get the coordinates to the graph paper
It does take a few goes to get all along the curve correct
When ive drawn it in i cut one from thin card to try it in place before cutting a real one
