Re: Perhaps it's better not to know.
I was thinking of getting some braided bonding straps from somewhere - if you want to join in a group purchase it may save a bit on postage/min order costs?

Re: Perhaps it's better not to know.
Hi Guys,
I have struggled to find any definitive standards for this – the UK specifications have been harmonised with the EU specifications which in turn lead to BS and EN standards which are only available to view with subscription. It is a real minefield compared with the US system.
Anyway, what I have decided to use is good quality tinned copper braid (removed from some scrap 50 ohm co-ax cable), some electricians earth sleeving and a couple of crimp connectors for each earth link.
The braid is doubled back on itself before being crimped and the sleeving is extended into the crimp ferrule. The overall length of the links I am going to use are about 150mm.
(They have not yet been crimped in the photo).
Just a thought, but a piece of soft paper towel and a rare earth magnet may be handy when drilling the holes to make sure all swarf is collected and does not end up within the machine casing.
Hope this helps.
Tweakie.

Re: Perhaps it's better not to know.
Do the HPC machines make their earth through the earth wire on the plug or do they have a spike to hit into the ground? Anyone had any problems running one on a ring main that has an RCD?
Re: Perhaps it's better not to know.
Assuming you are in the UK then the earth is made through the plug connection. You should have no problems operating your machine with an RCD protected ring main.
Are you experiencing RCD problems ??

Re: Perhaps it's better not to know.
No, shopping for a machine now and a 1290 is looking favourite. Heard of some problems with RCDs on some machines that are poorly earthed. Some photos of wiring you see for some machines show only two of the three connections made on the back of the incoming power sockets, some show a separate ground wire post and come with a ground stake. It would be a shame all the efforts we've gone to in our workshop towards safety to fall at the last hurdle on the first machine to go into it, it sounds as though that is not the case on a 1290, but I'm pretty happy to modify things as necessary.
Re: Perhaps it's better not to know.
I think Chris or someone at HPC should confirm this for you JC - will give Ellie the heads up so she can report back

Hi,
Just spoken to Chris,
All our pro machines have an RCD built in.The earth is all back through the plug, this means it will PAT test correctly.PLEASE DONT USE A 500V MEGA- Treat as a PC .....
The doors are earthed also so no need for extra earths.
As things progress at HPC we move foward to keep everything safe and up to spec.
Any special requirements please call Chris on 07854161710
Hope this helps
