Mmmm - just had a look at mine - there is a push to make switch on the tube door, maybe worth checking it can move freely and click when the door closes. Any cables hanging loose in the mother boards area? Did you see it work when you picked it up? I know Chris sets them up so wonder if something has dislodged?

Seems odd. Double check that there is a magnet on the doors so when it closes it magnetises. Just to confirm that the laser switch is the one in the middle of the top.
Also, open up the control cabinet (ISOLATE FIRST!) wit hthe key and check that the plugs are all in properly. Be careful! There are serious voltages in there. Do not touch any components at all. Just the plugs. A visual check should be fine.
Just making sure nothing fell off during the journey!

The machine was working when it was at the showroom - but Chris had it running with a magnet against the door lock switch, so it could run with the lid open. I'll isolate, check the other doors and so on and try again.
There is a little round disk on the opening bit of the lid, and when the lid is closed, it is locates just above and to the back of the door lock switch on the inside. I guess a few photos might help. I'll take some now while I'm poking about....

YAY! Cutting at last!
I opened all the doors (including the control panel, CO2 tube cover and the top/main door) locked and unlocked everything then tried again. There was a high-pitched whine and the needle flicked over to 15mA and a little puff of smoke.
I'm now cutting out little circles from 3mm acrylic with no trouble!
I'd like to find the optimum settings for different types of material, but I'm not sure I'm changing the values in the right places.
I've drawn a 10mm circle and sent it to engrave. The first screen lets me jog the head around to get to my origin (I find -80,10 puts me in the top left corner, but I guess that's down to how the material is loaded into the machine).
I've set the dial on the top of the machine to about 12mA and when I set it cutting from the second pop up (below) it whizzes through the acrylic. Yay! I'd like to try to increase the speed, but I'm not sure where I do this. I changed the value in the top left from 10mm/sec to 20mm/sec and finally to 50mm/sec which seems really quite fast, but the speed of the cutting doesn't seem to change. I can't believe I'm cutting 3mm acrylic at 12mA and 50mm/sec when my mate's 40W cutter can just about manage 3mm acrylic in a single pass at 15mA and 10mm/sec.
Can someone please tell me where I change the speed/power in NewlyDraw then I promise I'll leave the forum alone for a while and actually get some cutting done! This new laser cutter is really exciting. And quite scary. I don't want to screw anything up!

Its in Properties > general
Cut: Speed - Is the cutting speed
Scan: Speed is the engraving speed
Scan Gap: Is how far it engraves the lines apart. This directly affects how long it takes to engrave and the qulaity of the image

Some hints:
I cut 3mm acrylic at 15mm/s @ 55% power. This is set using the dial! 5 1/2 turns

It is quite scary but after a few mis-haps like forgetting to send the head home and starting the job with some nasty crunching sounds, sending a file that is too big for the cut area I can say the machine is still cutting as well as it did the day I got it!
