I'm having regular problems with my machine (6090) losing communication with my PC. Sometimes it's a "Softdog - no same" message, and other times the PC states that the USB device is not recognised. At first I suspected the PC to be at fault, but it is the same on a second PC that I have tried. A quick scan of these boards shows that some others have had this problem but I've seen no cures for it.
Any ideas?

Re: PC and laser dropping communication.
What operating system have you got on the PC? I've had issues with Win8 and had to go back to using a Win7 machine.

Try a different usb port, nit one that is part of the same pair though.

Re: PC and laser dropping communication.
Both machines use winXP. (Old, I know). Strangely, on one machine all USB ports stop working when the problem occurs, only to work again at some seemingly random time later on. I have other plotters etc plugged in and this never happens when I am using them. On the second machine it works fine once only. ie I send a job to the laser but if I try to send another I get the 'soft dog no same' message. If I close the software and reopen it works again. But only the once.
I'm starting to think this isn't computer related, rather the laser or its software mucking up USB drivers.

Re: PC and laser dropping communication.
Hi there
The only time i've noticed mine do the soft dong message was when I forgot to plug it in (I use a laptop and take it in and out and don't want snap the stick)
I recently had a lot of trouble with my software on my pc to 6090 and one of my usb ports. The laptop just didn't want to talk to the 6090.
I moved the usb port and all is good. Could it also be the way you have installed the software (i'm running windows 7)
Hope this helps

Power saving and "Green" compliance means the USB ports turn off unless they are sending data after a given time.

Re: PC and laser dropping communication.
Thanks for the responses so far. I've checked power saving settings etc with no joy - I'm still having the same problems. Is anyone else using a rather old computer too? I'm wondering if my old and somewhat out of date USB ports are perhaps not suitable. As I said before, no other USB devices are causing problems. Only when I use the laser. Weirdsville!
