BOFA Advantage Oracle

Post by Pedro_Hernandez »

Hi

I've found the datasheet download on the web but I'm after a user manual, I'm guessing it must of had one when HPC installed our 1290 at thes chool but I cant find it.

Any idea how long the filter's last for on these, I'm guessing it will be two years old from when first installed, The 75% full light has never gone on but now it seems to be struggling and today the red light came on.

Theres no obviouse obstructions to the pipe or flange and the bottom filter is empty realy except for a bit of light powder residue.

Any advice would be much apreciated.

Regards

Sounds just like the way mine goes when the filter needs changed. It has an auto sensor which increases the motor speed as the filter become blocked and airflow reduces.

In our case during normal running the filter tickes over with 1 or 2 of the speed lights on, then over perhaps the last week or so in the life of the filter you can hear it speed up as more lights come on. The final nail is usually the 75% full light coming on as the extractor is running full speed followed by the red error light when it finally dies later that day or the next. We have them last months with fairly heavy use but the final death throughs of the filter only take a matter of days. As soon as the lights start coming on we get ready for a change.

When you do change the filter try changing one at a time rather than both. I find that we go through 2 or three prefilters before we need to change the Hepa/Carbon filter but didn't realise that until we'd done two swaps of both filters.

Hope that's of help,

Steve

Thanks Steve

That makes a lot of sense and BOFA Technical told me pretty much the same.

Were do you get your filters from ?, HPC only seem to want to supply them to me as a pair and I suspect that the Hepa/Carbon filter is still very servicable as theres no ingesss of residue/particals onto the underside of it from the pre-filter and no odour or fumes present when cutting acrylic or lamininates.

As a School in a very tough financial climate we cant afford to buy things we dont need, I'd sooner spend the money on an optics set for our 1290 !.

An interesting thing BOFA told me was that MDF kill's a pre-filter quite efficiently and that we did well to get two years out of it before it started to fail !.

Pete, Carbon filters break down due to chemical reaction not saturation. It's gasses not particulates that damage the carbon packs.

Best wishes

Thanks Dave, I was kinda aware of that as BOFA Tech told me the full blurb.

The presence of odor from the cutting of perspex's and other substrates is no different than it was a two year's ago, backed up by what BOFA UK told me and reiterated in Steves post I concured that the Carbon Filter was still serviceable and I dont see why I should need to buy a pair.

I'd say mdf (3mm & 6mm) is the material we cut most followed by perspex then laser ply and natural wood, last week due tobudgetry restraints I had to cut two class sets out of 3.2mm Hardboard.

Without a doubt probably the most smut and particulate producing material I've cut in the laser !,I've subsequently put it on my list of banned materials.

Tiz kinda weird, bit like buying a new fridge because the fuse went in the plug.

I hate hardboard with a passion, makes a right mess in the machine :( mind you mdf can be a pain as well,i'm cleaning lens and mirrors on a daily basis of late.may invest in a more powerful extraction system (the machinemart one was rubbish after all that as well) humm something like the blower on the kids bouncy castle could be good ;)

best wishes
