I have just started using the machine and enjoyingit.
My challenge is to isolate the best materials and matching the machine to photograv.
1. In particular I enjoy engraving slate but I I am having difficulty getting adequate contrast unless the finished poroduct is fully and carefully illuminated. I am using the Black Granite setting in Photograv- this tends to give a dark image on slate and a very thin/ dark image on granite. My normal machine settings are 250mms and 20% power on slate- anything with more power wipes out the detail. At this level the detail can be very good but slightly dark. Increase net power and engraving is lighter- but detail is wiped out. Increasing bright/ levels in Corel also works but its slightly hit or miss.
2. I have no success- inadequate power- engraving ceramic tiles! Any ideas? Is there a laserable ceramic?
3. Wood is great- good contrast and fine detail.
4. Acrylic is excellent especially when lit at the base by LEDS.
5. I am not overimpressed with glass. Tendency to go negative unless lit very carefully.
Any ideas on different materials etc would be appreciated. Naturally, as I make some progress I will share with the Forum.
Thanks,
David
Suggestions would be most welcome.
