problem engraving with newlydraw

Post by goodimoi »

hi,i'm trying to engrave on a 3mm cork sheet on my friend's laser machine but,the machine's not engraving. My friend showed me how it works before travelling and it seemed easy then;now on my own i'm having difficulties engraving.Normally,my friend uses corel but,i don't have that on my own pc so,i'm using newlydraw that came with the machine.i started by making a sample and typed a simple text 'hello' on newlydraw and tried engraving the text on the cork sheet using 200-speed and 17% -power but the machine will not engrave, the dolly just moves back to the upper right-hand of the bed[after setting it at the center] and nothing is engraved. What am i doing wrong pls? could it also be the laser tube is damaged or the lenses are not alligned properly? :?

What model is it? The 3020 has a red switch that turns the laser on and off also gradually turn the potentiometer up (ND does not control the power on the 3020 as far as I know)

Oh and you have to highlight the item you want to engrave as well ;-)

"ND does not control the power on the 3020 as far as I know" ??? I am a little confused. I just start working with 3020 but there is power and speed setting.
Is it right or I just miss somthing.

Well I may be wrong but as far as I can tell only the speed settings in ND have an affect - the 3020 has a potentiometer if this is turned down the laser won't fire no matter what power settings ND has.

I have emailed HPC to confirm the use of the pot ;-)

thanks,i've tried again this morning but,no success.yes,i think it's 3020 model and do i turn the potentiometer to the highest? i guess by potentiometer you mean the ampere-meter? and i'ld be grateful if you can describe step by step how i can type a text on newlydraw and engrave it or if you've got a picture i can import directly to newlydraw to engrave [just in case i've missed out something],pls start describing from when you start the machine. Every time i click on start engrave,it brings up - ''link error:5,try again?'' - And i think i do highlight the texts,i'm very confused now.thanks very much.

So it is not very accurate with 3020 to set some power setting for some materials for exemple 27%, 36% etc. just approx. ?

1. Click the 'T' button and then click on the screen within the rulers. you will then see a box appear and the text toolbar will show.
2. Enter the text from the toolbar and then select the font - your text should then fill the box on the layout page.
3. Next to the area on the text toolbar there is a pull down option box - if it is set to none set it to mode 1 or 2 and below it set the colour to black.
4. ensure the text box is selected and click the engrave button (looks like lightning bolt) or go file, engrave.
5. On Engrave window ensure the make and model is showing in 'Factory' and 'Model' boxes

I then click the 'To X,Y' button to move the head to the top left corner of the honeycomb, then click start engrave then click start on the next window.

Please note this is just a quick quide on how I do it - if the installation of Newlydraw is on a new PC there may be other setting you need to set.

Have emailed HPC so hopefully they will confirm ;-)

From what I understand the power will be approx anyway even if it is controlled by the PC as the tube will degrade over time and there is no feed back from the head.

I ignore the power settings in ND - I have just tested this - set text to engrave, turn pot so just marking paper. Went to 'prop' and power is set to 0% - set it to 50% and re-started the job - no difference!

Maybe try it on yours and see if it is just my model? May be worth starting a new thread as well so we don't confuse the topics ;-)

Yes it is true I test it now with diffrent setting of Current regulator of 3020
Maximum power is turn around 10 times so 1 turn around will be 10%.
I will try to do scale around for more precise setting. Thank You
