Hi Mark,
That's perfectly normal for a parallel device - those ports were first used long before 'plug and play', so the PC knows nothing about what is connected until the correct drivers are installed and configured. This also means that you'll have to manually install drivers, as Windows cannot identify the correct files for itself.

If you can't get a CD etc. from Chris, the chances are the drivers (and installation instructions) will be around on the net - you just need to know the correct model number of the controller board inside the laser machine to make sure you get the right files.

Im sure the drivers for the machine are built into newlydraw , not installed as a seperate driver into windows , you need the version of newlydraw made for your suppliers machine

I would like to find that out Star - the EngraveLOC.ini file in the ND program folder I have has lots of different machines all pointing to various .dll files. It maybe that all you need to do is get the IDW and see if it matches any of the entries listed and if the relevant dll is present. Not sure how you get it though

I maybe wrong but it looks like the parallel machines use EnG3Bin.Dll while the usb uses EnG3BinV8.Dll - I have not had a chance to investigate further so just guessing ATM ;-)

I have just taken a usb stick, plugged into the computer, selected the folder in mycomuter, copied , and pasted to the usb stick, put a selection of old bits of computer together and copied the file onto the `new` computer

I have the machines in the selector bit on the `engrave` bit , plugged 3040 in and it cuts

I did nothing other than install xp onto it prior to copying the file ( i had visions of what used to happen in windows 3.1 , with all the irq rubbish , it just worked )

Yeah I think (but maybe wrong) thats because the dlls and ini file are all in the ND program folder - could you email me the ini file Rog?

Mark if you could do the same and I'll have a look - only if it's to discount the ini file as being the culprit ;-)

It's EngraveLOC.ini on mine - I have 19 dlls so yours could be an earlier version which may help ;-)

Cheers
