3020 not engraving.

I've had this machine for over a year now and managed to solve most issues usually with a bit of help from Chris. This problem seems to have beaten us both. The Laser is cutting but when it tries to engrave it simply passes over the area to be engraved without making a mark. Chris suggested increasing the gap but this did not work nor did slowing the speed or a combination of the 2. I had thought it might be the tube but how could it still cut if its the tube? The mirrors/lens are clean.

Any potential solutions would be appreciated.

Strike up on the tube, as tubes age the lowest setting they will fire at increases.

To start with most will fire at 7 to 9% power, after time that can increase to as much as 20% or above (the resistance increases inside the tube) could be down to the tube or the PSU,

that's about all I can think of really.

cheers

Thanks for the reply Dave, i'll try fiddling with power settings tomorrow. PSU stands for Power supply unit? How do i fix that? Does the Laser have a switch somewhere i could have moved to the wrong setting without realising?

Hi Mick,

Yup, PSU is power supply...its a non user serviceable part though. Best to leave any work on that to Chris or HPC (they can be dangerous VERY)

cheers

I can't think of anything on the 3020 that would stop the machine engraving but not cutting other than what Dave has said about the tube. Presume you have tried various ways to engrave (like drawing a simple shape) - make sure the 'mode' box is set to the right setting (if its the NewlyDraw version).

Where in the UK are you?

Cheers
Dave

Thanks Daves!

I wouldn't mess about with a PSU! It is Newlydraw and i have tried simple shapes. Also just tried the different 'Mode' settings for scanning and changing the power settings. Nothing worked.

On the plus side i am planning to order a 6040 in a few weeks time and will be paying extra to have it delivered and installed on site. If its not working by then i will get Chris to send up any spares that might be required to fix it so the engineer can sort it out while he is here. I'm in Ponteland Dave which is right next to Newcastle airport.

Thanks for the suggestions lads.
