Quick Tip/Holding thin card down to cut

Hi

On my 3020 I find these small sqare magnets from Rapid Electronics hold the paper/card down to the machine whilst I engrave/cut it. If not held down it can turn up at the corners (presumably with the heat of the engrave/cut). Although the surround looks like aluminium the mesh is magnetic.

Rapid Electronics item code 06-5978

Remember guys Lasers are deflected by magnetic fields :)

Is it a problem if the magnets do not come near the beam?

For example if I got a steel plate on the bed and the magnets are at the far corners of a peice of paper and the beam doesn't come within lets say 40mm of the magnets.

Regards

Peter

Depends on the magnetic field Pete,

ND45 magnets and such like (rare earth) can cause BIG problems both with beam deflection and by damaging the controller cards.

The lower power ferrite mags are usually ok, if you do start getting scary results try the same thing without your mags just to be sure ;)
