Hi All,
I've just had two problems this week, with different files.
One was damn simple: two concentric circles. The other was a much more complex cut. Both had nice 8.3 filenames.
In both cases the laser (3060) complained about being out of memory when I went to load the file from USB. In both cases I deleted a file, uploaded, and hey presto, we're ready to cut.
Or are we?
After cutting for (case 1) a few seconds, (case 2) several minutes the laser head just stopped. Nothing. In case 1 the laser was illuminated, so I got a nasty hole. Glad I noticed it, or there could have been a fire! In case 2 the laser was not illuminated. I thought that I'd missed the "finished" beep - went to the laser because, presumably, it had finished, and noticed that it'd only cut 90% of the job.
In the first case I remade the job as a new file, deleted a few files (just to be sure) loaded the new circles and did the job. In case 2 I deleted a couple of files, RELOADED the original file, and it worked, no problem.
This suggests that the problem is in the machine, not the files.
I now have only about ten files on my machine. Many fewer than it should be able to store.
It seems that something is invisibly taking up the memory on the machine. Or has a memory module failed?
What's happened?
Thanks,
James

Freezes... and missing memory?
Re: Freezes... and missing memory?
I delete all files from the machine and store on the PC - I know it should be possible to store on the laser but it does seem to cause various issues.
Keep an eye on the head not moving but firing - if id does it again call HPC.
Best

Re: Freezes... and missing memory?
Thanks Dave,
The way I work on some projects, saving designs on the machine has (up until now) been completely faultless, and is VERY useful. I'm wondering whether some gak (or other mystery substance) is clogging up the memory on the machine.
Is there a button-press on the machine's menu to "reset memory" - or is it just a case of deleting all files? I don't have a USB cable to hand... (typical!)
Cheers,
James

Re: Freezes... and missing memory?
HI James
Like Dave i delete all from the pc
And download cfg if i see anything wrong (normally my own doing )
I've not really use a flash drive in the machine much but when i have it's been ok

Re: Freezes... and missing memory?
The second happens (freezing and firing) when you dont give it at least 2-3 seconds after the download finished before pressing start, i can reproduce this. Mine has done this a few times!

Re: Freezes... and missing memory?
Thanks Tom, Thanks PhillyDee,
I think I'm beginning to get a handle on the problem - it only seems to manifest when I attempt to cut really complex shapes. I was just cutting a tree with no leaves this morning (a file so complex that Lasercut 5.3 simply refused to "Unite Lines") and it did it again!
While it may be a laser memory issue, it may also be that the CFG needs refreshing. I guess I'd better dig out my USB cable, as I don't think it's possible to do this via a stick. (Anyone know if you can? It'll save me a journey to my other workshop!)
I wonder whether this is just one of those things that happens when you try to cut a design above a certain level of complexity...
All the best,
James
P.S. For the record, I've had two years of success using 3060s without cables - the USB Stick method has proven faultless up to now. I've consistently stored 30 or so designs in the laser, and just deleted one when I've wanted to load another. I always use exactly the same procedure: delete a file to free up memory, then introduce a USB stick with exactly one .MOL in the top level directory of the stick. That way, the laser just sucks in the file, without needing to faff around with the fiddly menus on the machine.

Re: Freezes... and missing memory?
could you "break down" the complex files in to two or three cuts/files ?
