LaserCut 5.3 / Windows Seven Aggro

Post by JamesW »

Hello All,

At Infinite Crypt towers we have a software problem. Using Lasercut 5.3, I can use my laptop to communicate with our 3060s, my co-conspirator Rob is having trouble with his laptop.

I'm running Linux, on a ten year old machine, with an ancient copy of XP in a Virtualbox. It works!
He's running Windows Seven on a fancy two or three year old laptop. It doesn't!

He can get Laserscript installed and running, with one of those ridiculous softdogs (ermmm... nobody considered that the LASER ITSELF is the only mechanism needed to suppress software piracy?!?) but when it comes to uploading files to one of the lasers, he gets a message which says "communication timeout" (sorry, I haven't got the full error text) and an invitation to restart the software.

Any suggestions? (Apart from the sensible one - moving to Linux... which actually works.) ;-)

No bias in software preference here. Oh no.

All the best,

James

A lot of different companies use Leetro cards hence the reason for the hardlock. The new version of LaserCUT that is coming out soon doesn't have a dongle though :)

The Win7 problem may be related to the USB posts powering down on 7 breaking the comms.

cheers

Thanks Dave,

We've managed to get another copy of LaserCut going on an old XP machine for now. However, it's definitely indicated to get a decent, cross-platform piece of open source software to drive these lasers.

All the best,

James

@Spooky "The new version of LaserCUT that is coming out soon doesn't have a dongle though :)"

Do tell! I hope it's better than the current 5.3 thing that simply crashes all the time when something is off. Myself and my son, who runs the jobs, find it pretty frustrating on our LS3060, the s/w will fart at inappropriate moments. (However, your pin bed is a work of art and is just dandy in it!)

Hopefully it'll also work on something a bit more modern than 32-bit WinXP. :-)

Hiya Paul :) great news on the pin bed :)

The new version of lasercut I've been told is supposed to be much more stable, then again who knows till it's released ;)

cheers

I just want it to be dongleless! I have no issues with crashes on either laser personally.

Hello guys,

I have a HPC LS3020 and was hoping to get it running with Windows 7 32bit. I have one problem the disc I have for Laser cut doesn't actually contain it. I was wondering if someone would be able to provide me with a working copy of Laser cut?

The current disc I have contains
lpc214x
lpc214x.sys
LPC214x_Driver_Install
and a text file with Chinese writing on

After searching Google for ages I did find what was claimed to be a copy of Laser cut but after installing it, when I try to run it, it says "Plug in softdog and restart the software". I have no idea what softdog is?

Thanks

Jordan

The softdog is the usb dongle, if you don't have that you can't run the software.

The files you listed are for the Newlydraw version not Laserscript so you may be after the wrong software anyway ;)

Laserscript and ND are not interchangable
