NewlyDraw problem

Post by miniaturemaniac »

Hi
I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but for some reason Newlydraw has taken upon itself not to recognise/open new DXF files I try to import? Its fine opening existing ones but I'm beaten as to why it doesn't want to come out and play anymore.
I have been designing loads of new items and I can't for the life of me get them to show on Newlydraw.
I use Adobe Illustrator and have had no problem before - I have tried using my laptop (in case there was a problem with my desktop) but it still won't show my import - just a blank screen?
And - yes I have tried the usual - switching off and then on again.
Any ideas please.

Regards

Format Sue, when you save it has to be AutoCAD 2000 DXF format, Illustrator supports later versions of DXF but ND doesn't :)

I have just tried another xp laptop and it does exactly the same - so I know its not the laptop i'm using with Newly draw.
It was working perfectly before this! I haven't / don't use the laptop with Newlydraw for anything else but for using with 3020! So I know there isn't any conflict with anything else!
I have reinstalled the software this has made no difference.
My laser is u s without this working -

Hiya Sue,

If ND has been reloaded and old files still work it's down to illustrator :)

Can't help with Adobe, maybe install Draftsight, load an old file, load a new file and see if you can find the difference?

Did think that may be Illustrator is the problem, but I haven't had updates or anything?

Will try other means and ways to get a dxf file to work.

Thanks so much for your quick replies - will give you update - just in case others may get this same problem in future.

Open the DXF in notepad Sue and read the first 2 lines (header) if they are not the same as the older ones then it's the save format most likely due to a windows update (its automatic for mickeyshaft software).

A good percentage of the problems I deal with each day are down to the drawing package that has been used, Corel causes the most problems but illustrator isn't far behind sadly.

Well I am about to lose the plot!!???

I have tried just about everything and it just does not want to work.

I have tried different computers - made new simple drawings - exported to DXF and Newlydraw still won't 'see' them.

Tried Draftsight - still don't work!

Without the ability for Newlydraw to recognise new work my 3020 is an expensive useless piece of metal!

There must be someone out there who has had this problem - and as said before - there has been no updates on my Windows XP (I have auto update switched off) - there has been no updates to my Adobe Illustrator either!

Don't know what to try next!

Right now I could cry.
