The drawing in Autocad is clearly composed of lines, seperate (Its a mesh design for a pipe) squares, but newlydraw imports it with joined and diagonal lines.
Top is ACADr14, 2nd is NewlyDraw.
Any ideas? The small lines are 0.5mm wide, the larger 4mm wide.
Ideally you need to use R2000 format DXF files for laser cutting, although R14 will work fine it can cause some small issues.
If you want to send the drawing by email to me I can have a look at it for you, are you using polylines or seperate line entries?
Also are you purging the drawing before saving it? (that can cause big problems for newley draw if you don't)

Hallo,
Thanks for this! Looks like I am going to have to fork out for some different software. I have been using r14 for donkeys years! Just assumed it would still cut it! I take it solidworks isn't a good alternative? I know its 3d, but it does have 2d capabilities.
Also - Tried purge (never used it before!) and it came up with nothing.
Out of interest do you re-size it in Newlydraw or is it the right size when you import?
I use DoubleCAD which is free and get on ok with it but then I don't use it professionally like you or Dave so not sure if it has all the features you need!
Cheers
Dave

I do it actual size. Its the correct size when in Newly Draw.
I learned it at college doing Mechanical Design, along with Pro Engineer and Solid Works I taught I myself. I do enjoy 3D modelling! I have no artistic ability though! Everything I make is functional, and fits perfectly, but lacks somewhat in aesthetics!
I had this with newly draw when using turbocad , once i asked on here and Spooky said to use the r2000 version of file , i could do this with autocad and it worked but it didnt work with Turbocad, ive never had a problem since with autocad but ive now mainly been using Draftsight and it works just as well
The reason I asked about size is because I had a file that was fine when re-saved scaled smaller so wondered if it was a problem with ND.
ND is really out of date now but when I emailed 0123.com about an update they sent a very very vague reply (I had supplied a translated message so maybe there was something wrong in transation).
Cheers
Dave

Star is quite right, draftsite is indeed free and saves to the correct 200 format
The problem with Phil's file was the auto corner chamfer that the earlier versions of autocad can sometimes add ad-hoc.
All fixed and on it's way back to you now Phil
best wishes

I've had this exact problem and I solved it by turning all of the lines in Autocad into polylines :-
Pedit [ret]
Mult [ret]
Draw a window over the whole drawing to select all objects
You will be prompted to ask if you want to turn all items into polylines, answer yes.
J [ret]
You will be asked for a figure, I forget the specific term, just hit ret.
Exit from pedit all of the rectangles should now be joined polylines, save the dxf and try again.
Madness! And a massive THANKS to Spooky for the assistance! Shame it didn't cut so well! The 0.5mm narrow lines must have been a bit too small, it was a little thin, and ended up snapping when trying to remove the bots. I will be getting 2004 when I find a copy on eBay. Seems to be none there at the moment. Time to upgrade r14!
I never actually used any cornering and chamfering when drawing it, which is a bit odd to say the least!
