Re: Measuring laser current.

Hi Dave, many thanks for the reply. Since I last posted on here I've hoiked the machine out of its corner and stripped it down quite extensively. (all day job, required emptying most of the workshop to get space to do things) The main thing I discovered was that one of the mirrors, predictably the o...

Measuring laser current.

Hi all. I'm still having, what I would consider, no happiness at all with getting my cutter to do work at a decent rate. The machine is an old school 3040, one of these. http://www.laserscript.co.uk/LS3040.html and with a shiny new 40w tube I can (mostly) cut through 3mm birch laser ply at at speed ...

Re: 3040 requires slow cutting speed

a 60w tube ?
Not sure it would fit inside the 3040 case, and the power supply would need an upgrade too I suspect.

Worth looking into though

Re: 3040 requires slow cutting speed

Hi Dave, in theory it's laser ply. Got it from here http://www.mindsetsonline.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1249 I've used ordinary ply in the past, some cuts just fine, some just chars. Not sure how to tell if my focus is right, (aside from looking at the sharpness of the burnt laser dot) I've...

Re: 3040 requires slow cutting speed

Tube is about 3 years of light use old. Nowhere near burnout just by time used. 40watts nominal (no ideal of actual, never had a meter to test it) Never spotted any bubbles in there. But this isn't a new problem, it's been like this from day 1. It's only reading other people's tales that have made m...

3040 requires slow cutting speed

Hi all. I've been reading the posts on the board and find myself a little perplexed. Mostly with the way that people are reporting sucessful cuts of 3mm ply at speeds and power settings I can only dream of. I'll dump a load of information here in case there's anything useful... If I want a 95% succe...

materials sourcing ?

Hi all, Trying to get my hands on decent laserable plywood. 3mm for preference, though 4mm would do in a pinch. I've used standard exterior ply from DIY places and it's passable, but not excellent. I tried spending the extra to get "laser ply" from, here http://www.mindsetsonline.co.uk/pro...

Re: Shiny MDF problem

Hi all, reading back through all the things looking for "innformation" I'm also running a 3040, and the settings 6mm/sec and damn near 100% power are the kind of numebrs I'd expect to reliably cut 2mm MDF on my machine. 3mm plywood/mdf needs 100% power and a max of 3.5mm/sec Could it me th...

New Mirror mounts.

I've finally got fed up with the mirror mounts on my 3040. Currently alignment is a two day chore with no guarantee of success, just a slow incremental drift towards slightly better. Has anyone tried fitting more robust and more easily adjustable mirror mounts to any of the laser script machines ? S...

Re: Newly installed 3040

Aye, I think I need to poke the machine a little more.
It's close, but not perfect. Curse those naughty road bumps and their misaligning nature.

I can cut some more cards if you'd like one, though the gears are rather sloppy. I'll try to get them smoother and then pop onein the post.
