LaserCut 5.3 Softdog USB Dongle on VM

Hi All,
I wonder if anybody can help please? I have been using LaserCut 5.3 on a Windows 10 laptop to drive my LS6090 for some time now without issue. I would like to be able to use it in a Windows 10 virtual machine (VirtualBox) running on my MacBook. The problem is that even though I plug the Softdog USB dongle into my MacBook and check that it is attached to the virtual machine, when I try to run LaserCut 5.3 I get the error "Plug in softdog and restart the software!"
Any ideas what the problem and resolution is please?
