I've just had to reinstall the dongle driver as, for some unknown reason, it just wouldn't work! It got me wondering what to do if the dongle got lost or broken - any ideas about getting a copy?

You have to order from HPC and is quite expensive so look after it ;)

That's what I'm worried about, the expense and the time/inconvenience. Is there no way of copying it for safe-keeping?

Nope, tried. I almost killed a newlydraw one, i think a replacement was £76. I managed to fix tge old one by tracing the pcb to resolder the usb connection, but still bought a replacement.

You're not wrong, proprietary software that is only required for use with specialist hardware shouldn't require a bloody four hundred quid dongle.

But it does.

The. End.

That's the way Letro (who developed LaserCut) decided to go - presumably it was harder to crack a dongle than a licence key!

AFAIK the latest version of LaserCut does not require a dongle but is not compatible with the current controller cards.

Mine has been sticking out of the back of the PC for the last 4 years and come to no harm, the 2nd one I have is in the laptop - if I move it the dongle comes out and put in a drawer.
