Hi Dave,

Thanks for that.

When i put the speed up too high on my 3020 (say 35mm/s) then the curves become jagged looks atrocious for intricate details. Is this down to tube output power? or is it the limitation of the steppers? or is it something completely different??

Thanks for the advice with the 6840 - I need to save a bit more cash and then will be going for it (or I might just take out credit - Some cracking 0% deals flying around at the minute - Nationwide are offering 17 months!)

Cheers,
Glen

I would say its downto the frame build. It cannot handle rapid changes in direction, the way the bearings are designed (plastic wheels really!) is not great, there is no spring for constant contact, you can twist the carriage.
Plus, if you have alittle slop in your belts, this would not help.

Cheers Philly,

So do the issues you mention go away with the more expensive (better quality) machines - i.e. the 6840?

Just fishing for enough reasons to blow £4k +VAT ;)

Never seen one myself! But the build quality on the LS3020 is basic at best. You can see flex everywhere!

I would imagine so. I will be upgrading at some point myself! Bigger bed for a start!

Its the driver cards :)

The 68 series has a decelerating driver system so when the head is close to the end of a directional move the beam power is reduced along with the actual speed (kinda like abs braking), also the 68 runs from LaserCUT not Newlydraw meaning you can assign multiple functions (Engrave/Grade Engrave/Hole/Cut) on one drawing using different layers :)
Up to 256 layers are possible and the machine has 128 meg memory onboard as well.
The bearings are all hardened steel and run on V groove slideways with wipers to keep the dirt out as well as having Mo mirrors as standard.
In theory the 68 will also take any commercially available tube (you would need to swap out the power supply for anything over 60 watt though) as there is an access and extension door to both sides of the machine.

All round a world of difference to the desktop machines :)

best wishes

Dave
