Maximum File Sizes / Problems importing Illustrator Files

Post by bg222 »

Hi there -

I am working on some very fine laser engraving of many ten of thousands of digits - digits only 2mm high.

Artwork size 1.2m diameter (it is a circle). The engraving will be done in a number of passes and is expected to take many hours.

My problem though is not with the machine, but getting the software to accept the artwork size.

At 300PPI, the JPEG is 148.8MB. As the text is so small I am worried about going lower.

PDF's are unsupported, Illustrator files do not seem to load - this would seem the most logical option.

Are there any work around? How have people in the past loaded big files into the software/machine?

Cheers!

Saving as PNG can help if it is B&W.

The other option is to convert it to DXF vector

Hi Devan -

I have been told by Laserscript that PNG does not work with LaserCut5.3 - is this the case?

Thanks,

No - I use it all the time. What you have to make sure is that it is not 1 bit B&W - open it in MS Paint, save and close is a quick easy way to fix that.

I don't know much about AI or Mac to be honest but if you import the PNG in LaserCut 5.3 and it is not 1 bit B&W then it should be ok.
