Annoying LaserCut 5.3 glitch

Post by TimBobTastic »

Is it just me.... or is LaserCut a little temperamental sometimes?

I have noticed this problem a few times now.... If I simulate a file and then make some changes to the file before sending it to the machine and then cutting it, the changes do not always filter through to the cut data.

If you do not notice the issue because your changes are small (such as an offset to allow for Kerf) then when you cut your job it comes out wrong... very frustrating, I just scrapped i sheet of 4mm ply cutting a prototype clock mechanism.

I have found a work around, if i do a ctrl+A then a Ctrl+X followed by a simulation followed by a ctrl+C and re-simulate I get exactly what I want.

Would be interested if anyone else has these problems, or is it just me?

After downloading hit the ESC key on the control pad on the machine. That clears the buffer menu :)

Thanks for replying guys.
The problem is wholly in LC. I will giv you another example...

I made an acrylic Keyring with the letter K engraved on it, saved it, then saved as a new name, I deleted the k, placed a t and sent to the machine, making sure I deleted the file already there. The machine cut me another k (the file was called t).... I simulated my t Keyring and was very surprised when a k was simulated over the top of the t, even closing the software and reopening didn't change it, if I then used the cut and paste work around mention above and re simulate I get a t...

I find it Easy to replicate...
Draw an outline, add some text, simulate, change the text, simulate... The old text will be simulated, not the new

I think that once you hit the simulate button it draws a line in the sand, and any changes made after that are not updated when you upload to the machine. Re simulating does not help, you have to select all, cut, simulate, paste, simulate to,get the correct output.

not sure what controller you have ?
Can you see it on the laser Control panel before you cut ?

as for the file, try deleting the K and adding the T before you save it as a new file ???

I don't use LC, but would try that as a work around to see :-)

Hi Tim
The only time i have had this problem i was engraving glass trophies
for a four man team , all i was doing was making one name bigger for each
trophy so just moving one name too the top and making it bigger four names four trophies
On the fourth it went back too the first i was just overwriting the last file
This was years ago and i have always delete the last file for then and no problems
I will have a go and see if i can make mine do what you have said on monday
You could ring hpc and ask them too email you another copy of laser cut for your machine

What happens if you don't simulate

I have this exact issue, and I think it is actually a file error. It may have trouble overwriting a file, so doesn't bother. The graphics say the correct thing, but when it runs the actual machine simulation, it traces quite another.

I am so pleased I am not the only person who has this issue. There is definitely something strange going on, it's ok if you remember to simulated before you run every job amd notice the problem, but if the change is small such as an offset and you don't notice it you could produce scrap.

While it is frustrating, it is part of the learning curve, nothing like making scrap to hone the senses.

I keep all of my Laser Cut files (one folder per job, unique name for each file), as a lot of my work is repeated, I just open the file, send it to the machine and run it... So much easier that importing a DXF file every time

I will have to call HPC during the week

I use a separate CAD program and save as AI format.
I use AI, as it seems to work better for me
I never save anything from the laser software. Mainly as I use the files for CNC or Laser, and the same shapes/files for different thicknesses
Just load the AI, set the speed and power depending on material and off I go.
The speed and power have to be tweaked from time to time, so I just go with the flow.

So, all my backups are mainly cad files and AI
