Try Maplex!

Post by bobg »

Hi

If you work in card or thin wood (like 2mm MDF) but would like a thinner, better material try Maplex. It's available 1mm thick from Mindsets Online (go to their web site and enter Maplex in the search box), is reasonably priced, cuts really well with a laser and is tough (it bends rather than breaks). Fantastic for most types of model making.

I'd no idea what it was when I ordered it (other than it was a sort of thin wood substitute), but am really, really impressed with it.

Thanks Bob, a bit more info about it here no nasties in it so is ideal for the laser. Does it produce much smoke?

Just doing a bit more research into Maplex - looks like it will no longer be available, all the company sites are down and someone on another forum phoned them and was told it is not available now. MUTR have it listed while stocks last - shame.

Hi Dave

Lasers well without too much smoke. Good clean edges. Can be bent into quite sharp curves without breaking. I see what you mean about 'whilst stocks last' - pity if it is no longer available.

This product is no longer available - shame it was ideal for some of my small railway mounting jobs.
