Re: Y Axis Stall / Shift
I have never changed the power and speed settings on the control pad... But it is worth double checking when I get home later... I am going to be giving HPC a call when they open... Hopefully they can diagnose from my description...Tom wrote:a quick thought are your speeds and powers set at 100% on the control pad
Best case, its something really simple none of us have thought of (doubtful, there have been some great comments so far - Thanks everyone)
Second Best Case... Stepper Motor driver is dead, probably most expensive item, but easiest to fit, with the possibility of being back in business tomorrow...
Third Best Case.. Its the stepper motor, probably the cheaper of the 2 options, but the most difficult to fit, possibility of being back in business at the weekend
Worst case... its neither of or a combination of the above that can only be fixed by an engineer.... Luckily my annual service is booked for next Thursday... maybe they can fit in a repair?
I am expecting the worst... but quietly hoping for the best....
Thanks for everyone's input, its all been very useful... I will of course report back any findings....

Re: Y Axis Stall / Shift
Just got off the phone to HPC, REALLY REALLY helpful... (Stepper motors and driver PCB's are the least likely cause of the problem... especially on the Y axis)....
Unfortunately I am not at my machine, so I could not verify anything (Day jobs eh... lol)... BUT...
It is pointing towards an accidental adjustment with the control pad (looks like a good call Tom.....)
Unfortunately my day jobs office is 60 miles from my laser... so I will not be able to confirm anything until later....
Once I know more... I will report back....
I am keeping EVERYTHING crossed...

Re: Y Axis Stall / Shift
Ok... So I checked the keypad and everything was set at 100%....
I ran the machine and the error was still present... So...
I increased the feed rate from 5.2 to 6.0... and the error disappeared.... completely... how bizarre!
I have noticed that when I datum the machine it goes back to a slightly different place now... around 8mm off in the X and Y direction... I am not sure of the cause of this... perhaps when I tried changing the rapid move speed, I changed something inadvertently.... (changing the rapid speed movement made no difference to the error... changing the feed rate did.....
So there we have it.... one very productive evening and a very baffled user.... I am not certain why a federate of 5.2mm per second would cause a problem... or even if that was the cause... But, if I change the feed rate back to 5.2mm... I get the Y axis shift...if I keep it at 6mm... everything is perfect....
HPC were really helpful on the phone. I have never had reason to phone them for a problem before, but they were approachable, friendly and informative... Well Done HPC... and Thank you...
Changing the speed was a feet of desperation on my part.... I was trying to find a way of getting my machine running.... And had a feeling I read something about a speed related error on one of the LS machines....
The laser is booked for a service next week.... So as long as I can limp it along for another week.... All will be well....
Has anyone had any similar issues?

Re: Y Axis Stall / Shift
like I said .. the only similar problem I've had are on my CNC ,,, top right ,, cutting away and you can hear the steppers stall ! .. quick .. hit the stop ... Slow the rapids down until I have time to service / clean / lube .... than all is good again .. these machines are quirky ! and need canstant TLC
