Engraving aluminium
Problem trying to engrave what i think are aluminium tools.
No matter how slow i run it or how many times i run the program it hardly marks the surface.
I've been engraving other tools no problem.
Any ideas?

had scan gap right down to 0.001

Re: Engraving aluminium
Unless the aluminium is anodised or treated with cermark type fluid it won't engrave metal.
Were the other tools coated?

Re: Engraving aluminium
Other tools are all hardened steel.
am i easier having them milled?
I was worried the laser would melt them to start with but i can hardly mark them

Re: Engraving aluminium
Can you show pictures of the hardened steel?
Normally these power CO2 lasers will not mark metal without the magic liquid.
I have a fibre laser that marks metal - but if you need a deep engrave then milling may be easier for you
Cheers

Re: Engraving aluminium
Mostly pliers, spanners, hammers etc
we've been using it to mark tools for a few years now, only real problem we have is Channelock Pliers that need doing 2 or 3 times

these are done at the following :
Speed 20
Power 100
Scan Gap 0.01
Speed 20
Power 100
Scan Gap 0.01
Re: Engraving aluminium
Thanks - I suspect it is a heat treatment more than actual ablating but cool nonetheless
