Bulbs and Vents

Hi Y'all, Hope everyone is enjoying the rain! Which leads me onto my first question. Currently I just dangle a flexible (5") hose out of the window for my vent. It's ok. I get a bit of smoke blown back in on windy days but more recently the horizontal rain we have been experiencing is posing mo...

Laser Tube Safety

Hi All, Is it dangerous to have the laser tube visible during operation? Seen a few videos of home made laser cutters and the tube is positioned at the back of the machine but is not covered like the LS machines. I assume radiation is only emitted from the business end and viewing the side of a tube...

Re: Power Varies During Cut

No worries Endcan - I've got a 50L tank and an inline chiller. Tube had just come to the end of it's useful life after a year. Had quite a lot of use of late. I should have just changed it straight away - i knew the alignment was good and keep the optics clean. Ah well - it's sorted now so I can wor...

Re: Power Varies During Cut

Just had another look at alignment... I am gettin a "double beam" out of the laser. Pic below is a single test fire at mirror 1 and mirror 2. I fire the laser once and I get a 2 burn marks. Does this mean I can narrow it down to a dying/wounded tube? http://s18.postimage.org/3pj6qxb1l/IMG_...

Re: Power Varies During Cut

Hi Peter, Thanks for the advice. I have ensured the card is perfectly flat and supported on the bed. I am still having issues http://s8.postimage.org/55nazi0d1/IMG_3164.jpg image hosting gif Up until a week ago, the laser would cut through perfectly each time - no card "cut-outs" would rem...

Re: Power Varies During Cut

Hi PhillyDee & Bob, Thanks for the advice. Looking at how I hold my card, it is very possible that the air assist could blow it out of focus. I support the card along 3 edges and have it raised 5 mm off the bed to prevent any backflash. Very possible that the card sags or is blown by the air ass...

Power Varies During Cut

Hi, Got a new lens from HPC and it's definitely improved the quality of my cuts. However, When I am cutting a design out of card it will randomly not cut all the way through in some parts, almost as if the tube power is up and down during the cut? Could this be a problem with the potentiometer? or a...

Re: Tube Power Decline

Hi Simon/Steve, Thanks for the info/advice. I tried replacing the lens with a one I have from China (it has a smaller diameter and the collar doesn't allow air assist) just to see if that would make a difference. Seems to have solved the issues. So I have purchased a new lens from HPC - hopefully th...

Tube Power Decline

Hi All, Been giving the LS3020 a hammering recently (in terms of time more than power): 10 - 12 hours per day cutting card at about 15% power and 25mm/s. Late last night the beam stopped cutting all the way through the card so I upped the power to 25%, and then moments later it stopped cutting throu...
